Building a Three-Application Gig Workforce Mobile Platform Field Services Platform

The Challenge

A high-growth startup entering the retail execution market needed to stand up a complex, multi-sided operational platform with no existing technology base:

    • Zero-to-Production Pressure — The entire go-to-market strategy depended on a working platform; any delay meant ceding first-mover advantage in a nascent category
    • Multi-Stakeholder Complexity — Three distinct user communities — internal operations staff, thousands of gig field agents, and brand customers — each required purpose-built application experiences running off a single data backbone
    • Scale from Day One — The platform needed to handle nationwide agent recruitment, real-time mission monitoring, and instant payment processing from launch, not as a later phase

The Solution

KT2i architected a unified low-code platform on OutSystems and delivered three production applications simultaneously across three user communities a Command Centre for internal operations, a mobile Brand Agent app, and a real-time Customer Portal. A solid architectural foundation was laid upfront to support continuous sprint-based feature delivery beyond launch, including offline mobile support, third-party payment integration for next-day agent payouts, and live analytics via PowerBI and Azure Data Services.

  • Command Centre — Internal operations application for end-to-end agent lifecycle management: recruitment, onboarding, training, mission design, real-time assignment monitoring, issue escalation, performance scoring, and payment processing at scale
  • Brand Agent Mobile App — Native mobile application for field agents to claim assignments, complete missions (observations, photos, store manager interviews), access just-in-time training, track achievements, and receive payment notifications
  • Customer Portal — Real-time mission monitoring dashboard for brand clients, with live data feeds, configurable alerts, and gap analysis to identify missed retail execution opportunities as they happen
  • Ecosystem Integrations — Plaid for next-day agent payments, PowerBI and Azure Data Analytics for real-time reporting, and OneSignal for mobile push notifications — all delivered as part of the core platform, not retrofitted

The Final Results

  • Speed to Market: Full three-application platform delivered in a single 3-month sprint cycle, giving the startup a production-grade operational backbone ahead of competing entrants
  • Platform Scale: 14,000+ gig agents recruited, onboarded, and managed through the platform; 29,200+ missions completed across the country since January 2023
  • Operational Control: Real-time mission monitoring, live issue escalation, and automated scoring gave internal teams full operational visibility across a geographically distributed workforce
  • Agent Experience: Just-in-time training, push notifications, and next-day payment via Plaid drove strong agent adoption and retention on the mobile platform
  • Continuous Delivery: Low-code architecture enabled ongoing sprint-based feature expansion well beyond launch, with offline support, advanced analytics, and new integrations added iteratively without platform disruption
