Role Overview
KT2i is seeking a Quality Assurance Inspector with CMM experience to ensure components, assemblies, and subassemblies meet established quality standards. This role is responsible for performing detailed mechanical inspections throughout the manufacturing process, operating and programming coordinate measuring machines (CMM), and developing inspection plans from electronic models and technical drawings. While primarily based in Newport News, this position may require travel to supplier and customer locations as needed.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform mechanical inspections of raw materials, machined parts, and castings from initial qualification through final inspection using stationary and portable measuring equipment.
- Operate and program coordinate measuring machines (CMM) to evaluate geometric characteristics of components.
- Interpret detailed blueprints and apply geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) principles.
- Ensure components meet specified geometric tolerances and comply with engineering drawings and internal specifications.
- Verify supplier measurement data and provide measurement results to engineering for validation.
- Develop and maintain quality inspection plans and CMM programs.
- Document inspection results and prepare detailed reports outlining measurements and compliance status.
- Review certified material test reports (CMTRs), calibration certifications, and related documentation.
- Generate nonconforming material reports and verify inspection results for nonconforming products.
- Perform audits as directed.
- Communicate inspection findings clearly with cross-functional teams.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- High School Diploma or Trade School certification required.
- Minimum of five years of metrology or quality control experience.
- Strong understanding and working knowledge of GD&T.
- Proficiency in operating and programming coordinate measuring machines (CMM).
- Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and procedure manuals.
- Experience using precision measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, and tape measures.
- Basic mathematical skills including fractions, decimals, and geometry concepts related to angles, cylinders, and planes.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access) and familiarity with contact management and internet-based systems.
- Ability to follow written, oral, and diagram-based instructions and manage multiple variables in standardized situations.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet productivity standards.
- Adaptability in a dynamic work environment with changing priorities.

- Domestic and international travel up to 30% may be required.
