Role Overview
KT2i is seeking a skilled Shop Technician to diagnose, repair, and maintain heavy equipment, including crane systems and related mechanical and electrical components. This role involves hands-on troubleshooting, welding, equipment overhaul, and ensuring all repairs meet manufacturer specifications. The ideal candidate is mechanically inclined, safety-focused, and capable of working independently and collaboratively in a shop environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Test mechanical products and equipment after repair or modification to ensure proper performance and compliance with manufacturer specifications.
- Diagnose defects by operating and inspecting heavy equipment and machinery.
- Repair and replace damaged or worn parts on cranes and other heavy equipment.
- Dismantle and reassemble heavy equipment using hoists, hand tools, and diagnostic instruments.
- Perform electrical diagnostics and fault finding.
- Read and interpret operating manuals, parts manuals, blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings.
- Overhaul and test machines to ensure operating efficiency.
- Inspect brake systems, steering mechanisms, wheel bearings, and other key components to ensure safe operation.
- Adjust and reline brakes, align wheels, tighten bolts and screws, and reassemble equipment as needed.
- Clean, lubricate, and perform routine maintenance on equipment and vehicles.
- Examine parts for damage or excessive wear using micrometers, gauges, and other precision tools.
- Weld metal parts and components using brazing, gas, or arc welding equipment in flat, horizontal, vertical, or overhead positions.
- Repair cracked or damaged components and prepare materials for welding or cutting by reviewing layouts, blueprints, and work orders.
- Promote and maintain a safe work environment by following established safety procedures.
- Handle and dispose of hazardous materials such as oils, antifreeze, transmission fluid, and cleaning agents according to regulations.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to interpret schematics, blueprints, and technical documentation.
- Demonstrated welding proficiency using multiple types of welding equipment.
- Ability to operate mechanical boom and cable equipment.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage tasks independently and in team settings.
- Professional communication skills and ability to work effectively with all levels of staff.
- Ability to multi-task while maintaining quality and safety standards.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a valid driver’s license and passport.
- Willingness to travel domestically and internationally up to 20%.
- Availability to work overtime, weekends, and on-call as needed.
