Role Overview
KT2i is seeking a Welding Engineer to support manufacturing operations and drive continuous improvement in welding processes, equipment, and production methods. This role collaborates cross-functionally to enhance current products, support new product development, and ensure efficient, safe, and high-quality manufacturing practices. Opportunities are available at multiple levels, from entry-level to senior, based on experience and qualifications.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the development and improvement of welding processes for new and existing products.
- Review product designs for manufacturability and provide technical feedback.
- Assist with fiscal planning, capital projects, and cost-reduction initiatives.
- Provide technical support for manufacturing concepts, technologies, and equipment implementation.
- Specify, select, and support installation of welding equipment and tooling.
- Develop and improve manufacturing workflows and procedures to meet production goals.
- Evaluate and propose advanced engineering concepts, equipment, and technologies.
- Support equipment utilization forecasting and future capacity planning.
- Assist in resolving non-conforming product issues and implement corrective actions.
- Participate in design reviews and provide manufacturing input and approvals (level dependent).
- Lead investigations into equipment failures and recommend technical improvements (mid to senior levels).
- Manage medium to large-scale projects, including planning and directing resources (mid to senior levels).
- Mentor and train peers; provide technical leadership and guidance (senior level).
- Collaborate with suppliers, purchasing, engineering, and other departments to drive project success (senior level).
- Ensure safe operations, tools, methods, and equipment are maintained throughout the facility.
Required Skills & Qualifications
Level 1
- Bachelor’s degree in Welding Engineering, or Associate degree in Welding Engineering with two years of engineering experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Knowledge of fundamental engineering and project management concepts.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering specifications, drawings, blueprints, procedures, and manuals.
- Strong mathematical skills including algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and statistical concepts.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project).
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes, equipment utilization, and basic production planning.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Level 2
- Bachelor’s degree in Welding Engineering with two years of applicable engineering experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience with MRP systems, bills of materials, and inventory management.
- Knowledge of GD&T and tolerance methods.
- Basic knowledge of 3D design software.
- Understanding of Lean principles.
- Experience managing small- to medium-scope projects.
Level 3
- Bachelor’s degree in Welding Engineering with four years of applicable engineering experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Demonstrated ability to plan, manage, and direct resources across projects.
- Experience leading engineers and production teams toward project goals.
- Ability to work independently and present technical information effectively.
- Advanced knowledge of Lean principles.
- Experience managing large-scale projects.
Level 4 (Senior)
- Bachelor’s degree in Welding Engineering with six years of applicable engineering experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Strong knowledge of financial data and costing procedures.
- Ability to determine methods and procedures for new assignments with minimal supervision.
- Proven expertise in project leadership and strategic decision-making.
- Ability to present information to senior leadership and external stakeholders.
- Subject matter expertise in welding engineering.
All Levels
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 10%.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a valid driver’s license and passport.
